I kind of feel like a lot of people - especially a lot of younger fans, who haven't been through this cycle before - are kind of flailing because it has been a while since fannish communities had to relocate? I can be a little more chill about it, I guess; I remember when LJ seemed too big to abandon, and when Myspace seemed like it was never going anywhere, although I guess Myspace wasn't ever really a fandom hub the way Tumblr has been. But we get along fine without those sites now. I'm pretty optimistic about the communities that settled and grew on Tumblr outliving the platform in some form.
